This is an exciting, independent social enterprise aimed at linking the travel industry with local community projects in Northern Botswana. By travelling to Botswana with Encompass Africa, we donate $1 per person per night and this money directly benefits local communities and wildlife conservation efforts. Another way we can make a difference to lives of others in Africa.

This award winning, unique and innovative non profit and fair trade certified company was created to raise funds and other forms of assistance for community development projects in Cape Town and further afield now in South Africa.

Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage Click to visit the Website
This orphanage is one of the product outcomes created by the hard work of David and Daphne Sheldrick who have dedicated their lives to the protection and preservation of Africa’s wilderness and its denizens, in particular the elephants and black rhino.
The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is the parent company and at the heart of its work is the internationally acclaimed Orphan’s project, there to ensure the future of Kenya’s threatened elephant and rhino populations as they are continually threatened by mother nature and human beings.
This is one of our all time favourites and our guests love it too. I think our guests have adopted over 20 elephants in the last year or two and financially contributed to the safety and well being of these majestic creatures.
If you are visiting Kenya on an African safari holiday with Encompass Africa, we can incorporate time in Nairobi to visit the Orphanage project for yourself. There are public viewings at 11am for an hour where you and others witness the juvenile orphaned elephants being fed. If you foster an orphan in advance like many of our guests have done in the past, you are able to enjoy a more private viewing at 5pm and get the chance to see the elephants settling in for the night ahead.

Rhinos without Borders has brought together some of Africa’s finest safari companies including Great Plains Conservation and And Beyond not to mention endless government ministries and travel specialists like ourselves. The effort has been to raise enough funds to translocate 100 rhino, black and white from high risk areas in South Africa to the comparatively safe natural environments of Botswana. Encompass Africa has been fortunate to work closely and witness phase one of the program when in February this year, the first group of rhino were successfully relocated.
You can get involved by financially contributing to the cause or, if you are interested, express interest in being one of a hand picked few that witnesses the next planned translocation. It’s a luxury safari holiday with the ultimate objective – saving one of Africa’s endangered species. A place cannot be guaranteed and dates and locations are not disclosed until the very last minute, so it is essential that you are committed to the cause and totally flexible with travel.

With so much time, money and the spotlight shining on the plight of rhino, Africa’s lions are forgotten. Did you know in the last two decades, the lion population has shrunk by 75%? There are predictions that our unborn grandchildren will not get to see lions in the wild. This non profit organisation was created to assist wild lions in areas where they need it most. It is about protection and survival of lion, learning of their plight and sharing it with the world. The slogan – is catchy, Don’t Talk, Just walk.

1. Identify human-induced threats and the affected species in order to halt or reverse species decline.
2. Ensure that the viability of threatened habitats and ecosystems is maintained.
3. Develop innovative, economically viable alternatives to address harmful impacts to the benefit of people and biodiversity.
4. Increase awareness and mainstream environmental considerations into the daily lives of people and decision makers.
5. Explore and develop opportunities for mentorship and capacity building within the conservation sector.
6. Provide a leadership role in ensuring efficient and adequate implementation, compliance and enforcement of conservation legislation.

Would you believe this organisation is completely run by volunteers. It is also Asian based and focuses its efforts on trying to dispel myths about the benefits of African wildlife body parts (specifically rhino horn, ivory, lion parts and pangolin products) in a bid to save lives of animals.
