First of all thank you to your office, especially to Jonathon for the excellent pre departure contact and information and for being readily available and happy to answer all my queries.
We had a terrific time. Flights, both international and local with Safari Link went smoothly and all ran on time. All our transfers and pick ups were comfortable and punctual.
Tawi Lodge itself was lovely and we had excellent game drives, a walking safari, delicious meals, personal hospitality from Meno the manager including a delightful sundowner experience which he hosted for the two of us. The bird and animal life was excellent and the view of the waterhole from the restaurant and swimming pool was most entertaining.
Kicheche Mara camp was hugely enjoyable although in an entirely different way. We were the only guests there for three of our four nights so the experience felt very personal and private. The only drawback with that is that there was no private time together. We ate every meal with the two camp managers and the general manager who was visiting for two nights. The conversations were fun and informative but it might have been nice to get a meal to ourselves during the four days. Nonetheless the staff could not have been more friendly and went out of their way to give us the very best experience. We visited a Masai village which was terrific and also went to the local Aitong markets and delivered some supplies to Aitong primary school. The headmaster was very appreciative and two children gave me a tour of their classroom.
The Mara had a lot of rain in December and so the grass was very long which sometimes made things very challenging for our driver and guide. But on the whole, it was a rewarding experience and we saw things that certainly will never be forgotten.
This was a 5 star experience and one I would certainly recommend to anyone, albeit perhaps at a better time of the year. (Only time the couple could travel)
In the future I would like to visit Botswana, Tanzania and Uganda so I will be in touch! Many thanks again.
