The Chobe National Park, which is the second largest national park in Botswana and covers 10,566 square kilometres, has one of the greatest concentrations of game found on the African continent. Its uniqueness in the abundance of wildlife and the true African nature of the region, offers a fantastic safari experience.
Best explored in 4×4 and boat, expect to spot Chobe’s great pachyderm (elephant) herds, lions, leopards, hyenas, wild dogs, impalas, waterbucks, kudus, zebras, wildebeests (gnus), giraffes and warthogs. The Chobe River is perhaps the best place to experience a sunset cruise. Whilst sipping on a refreshing drink enjoying the myriad of colours in the sky, you are likely to see elephants frolicking in the water or coming down to drink and crocodiles retreating to the waters.
The western corner of the Chobe is known as the Savute (also spelt Savuti) and covers some 5,000 square kilometres. It boasts huge migratory herds of elephants, buffalo, zebra, impala and wildebeest and other antelope with predators not far behind including lion, wild dog and hyena. There is in excess of 350 bird species recorded in the area.
